Raising Self-Esteem
Overcoming Life’s Challenges
I use the metaphor of "climbing mountains" to represent major challenges, while also acknowledging the smaller, everyday obstacles we encounter. The name "Climbing Hills Counseling" reflects my commitment to supporting women as they navigate both the big hurdles and the more subtle challenges in life.
Are you having trouble focusing?
Are you struggling to manage it all?
Are you feeling distant from your partner?
Reach Your Full Potential
Challenge imposter syndrome and embrace your success.
Hi, I’m Dr. Lauren Chase, founder of Climbing Hills Counseling. I help high-achieving women and girls boost their self-esteem, overcome anxiety and self-doubt, and unlock their full potential.
Sit Down and Vent
Sit back in your favorite chair, grab a cup of coffee or tea, and let’s talk about the stress you’ve been feeling from work, school, relationships, or friendships.
Balancing multiple roles and responsibilities can be overwhelming and exhausting!
Whether you are in your favorite workout leggings or business casual trousers, we can work together to achieve your goals.
Surviving and Not Thriving
As a fellow beautifully anxious person, I understand what it’s like to constantly be in survival mode, always anticipating the next challenge and struggling to enjoy your achievements because it’s hard to feel “good enough.”
Slow down.
Prioritize yourself.
Let’s work together to fight that anxiety, people-pleasing, and that bully in your head telling you that you’re just not “enough.”
Push Yourself
Feel joy again.
I believe you have the strength to overcome your challenges and reconnect with your true self. Sometimes, though, we all need a little guidance and push up the hill to get there.
By understanding the “how” and “why” behind our behaviors, we can find the courage to break free from old patterns and start creating a life that feels more fulfilling and authentic.
Address the issues you have been avoiding.
Be You
I believe in approachability, authenticity, and empowerment in the counseling process.
Feel comfortable coming as you are.
Bring your whole self to each session, and together we will create a supportive environment where you will feel motivated to tackle the goals you have been putting off and start making meaningful progress.
Feel Heard
Be more productive at work.
We want you to feel heard, understood, and valued.
We can work on crafting that perfect speech to your boss or partner to express your wants and needs or help you set stronger boundaries with your children.
Your experiences and perspectives matter.
I am an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist dedicated to social justice and celebrating diversity in all its forms.
Together, we will work toward your goals, improve your quality of life, and foster healing through greater self-awareness and insight.
If you have any questions about me or the therapy process, feel free to reach out by phone or email before scheduling your first appointment.
Savor life’s small moments.
If this resonates with you, let’s schedule a session to begin working together to break these patterns.

Dr. Lauren Chase
Hi, I am Dr. Lauren Chase!
I became a mental health counselor because I am passionate about helping people discover their inner strength, even during life’s toughest moments. Personal growth, to me, is like nurturing a tree—we may not see it flourish overnight, but together, we can strengthen the roots by exploring your past and watering the branches through self-care and meaningful change. My goal is to provide you with tools and support that last a lifetime, whether you’re navigating a current challenge or building toward a brighter future.
I earned my PhD in Counselor Education from UNC Charlotte, a journey that has allowed me to wear many hats as a teacher, practitioner, and supervisor. This variety keeps my work fresh and deeply rewarding. I am also a trained play therapist with a rich understanding of child development. During the pandemic, I developed a passion for supporting women and moms. Now, I combine my expertise in child and adult development to empower clients at every stage of life.
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina (#13620), a Professional Counselor Telehealth Provider in South Carolina (#1249), a National Certified Counselor (#886381), and a Certified Tele-Mental Health Provider (#3522). I am working towards my Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C) to help mothers experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders in the perinatal period.
Since 2017, I have worked with clients from diverse backgrounds in private practice, community mental health, schools, and residential facilities. My experience spans working with children as young as three, as well as teens, adults, and families. I specialize in individual therapy, play therapy, and group facilitation, focusing on perfectionism, burnout, imposter syndrome, work/life balance, vulnerability, and self-worth. Additionally, I have a strong background in community mental health, school-based counseling, and academic accommodations, tailoring my approach to meet each client’s unique needs.
My Approach
I specialize in helping high-achieving women who struggle with feelings of inadequacy navigate challenges related to parenting, self-esteem, and identity. I believe the relationship we build together is at the heart of the counseling process, where healing and growth begin.
With a supportive and conversational approach, I listen attentively while also providing actionable strategies to help you move forward. Together, we will create steps to help you feel empowered, confident, and independent.
I use evidence-based techniques such as person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and motivational interviewing, tailored to your unique needs.
Who I Am
Clients often describe me as authentic, empathetic, and compassionate. These core values guide every interaction I have as a therapist. I strive to create a space where you can truly be yourself.
My own experience with therapy taught me the transformative power of being seen and heard, and I bring that same intention to my work. My personal journey as a high-achieving woman navigating higher education and life’s many challenges has shaped my ability to relate to and support others.
Outside of work, I enjoy hiking and peaceful walks in nature, experimenting with new recipes, traveling with my partner, and spending time with my dog and cat, who always bring joy to my life.
FAQs
Are you accepting new clients?
Yes, we are currently accepting new virtual clients. Appointments are available Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
How long do I need to be in therapy?
Session frequency will depend on your needs and goals. After the intake, we will create a personalized plan to support your progress in and outside therapy. Generally, we will start with weekly appointments and then move to a lower frequency once you have achieved your goals.
How long are therapy appointments?
Sessions typically last 50 minutes, which is standard for individual counseling.
How do we begin?
Please complete the "Contact Us" form or email lauren@climbinghillscounseling.com. I look forward to connecting with you.
What can I expect during my first visit?
Before your appointment, you will receive a telehealth link via email or text. At your scheduled time, click the link to join the meeting. The first session allows us to get to know each other. We will discuss your goals for therapy, any current challenges you’re facing, and how I can best support you. This session also helps determine if we are a good fit to work together. You can access the client portal here.
How much does each session cost?
My self-pay rate is $150 per session, in line with industry standards for therapists with similar experience and qualifications. I also offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to help us determine if we’re a good fit. If you have concerns about affordability, please reach out to discuss options.
Do you accept insurance?
I am in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield (except Blue Value/Local) and Aetna (including the NC State Health Plan). Please check with your insurance company to confirm coverage for therapy services. If I am out-of-network, I provide a superbill for possible reimbursement and accept HSA/FSA cards.
What evidence-based approaches do you use in session?
I use evidence-based approaches like cognitive-behavioral therapy (thoughts, feelings, and behavior connection), motivational interviewing (motivation and values), and person-centered therapy (relationships and empathy), tailoring treatment to each client's needs. For parenting, I incorporate Child-Centered Play Therapy and Child-Parent Relationship Training to enhance parent-child interactions.
Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
Make sure your healthcare provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item.
You can also ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
