Dr. Lauren Chase

Hi, I am Dr. Lauren Chase!

I became a mental health counselor because I am passionate about helping people discover their inner strength, even during life’s toughest moments. Personal growth, to me, is like nurturing a tree—we may not see it flourish overnight, but together, we can strengthen the roots by exploring your past and watering the branches through self-care and meaningful change. My goal is to provide you with tools and support that last a lifetime, whether you’re navigating a current challenge or building toward a brighter future.

I earned my PhD in Counselor Education from UNC Charlotte, a journey that has allowed me to wear many hats as a teacher, practitioner, and supervisor. This variety keeps my work fresh and deeply rewarding. I am also a trained play therapist with a rich understanding of child development. During the pandemic, I developed a passion for supporting women and moms. Now, I combine my expertise in child and adult development to empower clients at every stage of life.

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina (#13620), a Professional Counselor Telehealth Provider in South Carolina (#1249), a National Certified Counselor (#886381), and a Certified Tele-Mental Health Provider (#3522). I am also Perinatal Mental Health Certified (PMH-C), which means I have specific training to support moms through pregnancy, postpartum, and all the identity shifts that come with parenthood.

Since 2017, I have worked with people from all walks of life—in private practice, schools, and community settings. I specialize in helping women navigate perfectionism, burnout, impostor syndrome, parenting challenges, and self-worth struggles. Whether you are in survival mode or ready to grow, I will meet you where you are—with compassion, honesty, and practical tools to help you move forward.

My Approach

I help high-achieving women who are tired of feeling like they’re not enough—even when they’re doing everything “right.” If you're struggling with self-doubt, identity shifts, or the pressure of balancing parenting and perfection, you're not alone—and you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself.

In therapy, our relationship is the foundation. This is not just a space to talk—it’s a space where you will feel genuinely understood, supported, and challenged in a way that helps you grow. I show up with warmth, honesty, and practical tools you can actually use in your daily life.

Together, we will work through the anxious thoughts that keep you up at night, the inner critic that will not quiet down, and the moments you feel like you have lost yourself in all the roles you play. Whether you are navigating parenting stress, rediscovering who you are, or building self-confidence, we will take real, meaningful steps to help you feel more grounded, more confident, and more like you again.

Who I Am

Clients often tell me they feel genuinely seen, supported, and safe in our work together—and that means everything to me. I show up as my authentic self so you can feel comfortable showing up as yours, without judgment or pressure.

I know what it’s like to carry the weight of high expectations while trying to hold everything together. My own journey through therapy—and through the ups and downs of being a high-achieving woman—has deeply shaped how I show up for others. I bring empathy, realness, and compassion into every session, creating a space where you don’t have to be “on”—just honest, open, and human.

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking and peaceful walks in nature, experimenting with new recipes, traveling with my partner, and spending time with my dog and cat, who always bring joy to my life.

Dr. Lauren Chase of Climbing Hills Counseling offers compassionate, evidence-based virtual therapy for women striving to overcome emotional challenges and unlock their full potential in North and South Carolina.

FAQs

Are you accepting new clients?

Yes, I am currently accepting new virtual clients. Appointments are available Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Are you offering in-person sessions?

I see clients located in North Carolina or South Carolina online via a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform and am happy to answer any questions about virtual therapy.

How long do I need to be in therapy?

Session frequency will depend on your needs and goals. After the intake, we will create a personalized plan to support your progress in and outside therapy. Generally, we will start with weekly appointments and then move to a lower frequency once you have achieved your goals.

How long are therapy appointments?

Sessions typically last 50 minutes, which is standard for individual counseling.

How do I schedule an appointment with you?

Please complete the "Contact Us" form or email lauren@climbinghillscounseling.com. I look forward to connecting with you.

What’s the difference between a 15-minute consult call and a 50-minute video intake appointment?

If you are considering starting therapy, you might be wondering what to expect in those first few steps. We offer both a free 15-minute consult call and a full 50-minute intake appointment—but they serve very different purposes.

The 15-minute consult call is a quick, no-pressure conversation designed to help us determine if we’re a good fit. During this call, we will talk briefly about what’s bringing you to therapy, and I will share a little about how I work. You can ask any questions you have about the process, and we will cover logistics like scheduling, fees, and whether I accept your insurance (either BCBS or Aetna). This is not a therapy session, but rather a chance for us to connect and see if moving forward together feels right. There’s no cost and no obligation—just a space to explore your options.

If we decide to move forward, the next step is the 50-minute video intake appointment. This is a full clinical session where we will take a deep dive into your history, your current challenges, and your goals for therapy. We will explore areas like your relationships, work stress, family dynamics, and any mental health symptoms you may be experiencing. This session helps me get a clear picture of who you are and how I can best support you. We will also begin identifying a roadmap for your therapy journey.

The intake session is more structured and is billed accordingly—either through your insurance or at the private pay rate. By the end of it, we’ll have a better sense of how we can work together and what the next steps in your healing process might look like.

In short:
The consult call is an informal introduction.
The intake appointment is the start of your therapeutic work.

If you’re ready to take the first step, I’d love to connect with you via email. Let’s see if this could be the right fit for the support you deserve.

How much does each session cost?

My self-pay rate is $150 per session, in line with industry standards for therapists with similar experience and qualifications. I also offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to help us determine if we’re a good fit. If you have concerns about affordability, please reach out to discuss options.

Do you accept insurance?

I am in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield (except Blue Value/Local) and Aetna (including the NC State Health Plan). Please check with your insurance company to confirm coverage for therapy services. If I am out-of-network, I provide a superbill for possible reimbursement and accept HSA/FSA cards.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations or rescheduling must be made at least 48 hours in advance to avoid a charge of the full session fee.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes, your privacy is very important to me. Everything we discuss is confidential, with a few legal exceptions—such as if there’s a risk of harm to yourself or others, or in cases of abuse. I will always explain these limits clearly.

What evidence-based approaches do you use in session?

As a high-achieving woman or mom, you are used to doing it all—but that doesn’t mean you have to handle everything alone. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, self-doubt, or feeling overwhelmed by the pressure to “keep it together,” I offer a supportive, personalized space where you can breathe, reflect, and reset.

Together, we will explore what’s really going on beneath the surface using proven, practical tools that actually work. I use approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy (to help you shift negative thought patterns), motivational interviewing (to uncover what truly drives you), and person-centered therapy (so you always feel seen, heard, and understood).

And if you’re a parent, I bring in child-centered play therapy and parent-child relationship techniques to help you better connect with your child—so you feel more confident, supported, and in sync at home.

My goal isn’t to “fix” you—it’s to help you rediscover your strength, quiet the noise of anxiety, and reconnect with who you are beyond all the roles you juggle.

What do all those letters after your name mean?

My credentials reflect my education, licensure, and specialized expertise in mental health care:

  • PhD – Doctor of Philosophy in Counselor Education and Supervision, with advanced training in clinical practice, research, and teaching.

  • LCMHC – Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, authorized to provide therapy in North Carolina.

  • PMH-C – Perinatal Mental Health Certified, specializing in mental health support during pregnancy, postpartum, and throughout parenthood.

Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

Make sure your healthcare provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item.

You can also ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
